I took a second shot at the Painted Cherry Blossom Cake, immediately after sending the first one for Maria & Pat out the door. I wanted to see if I could get a little wiser the a second time around. Also, I wanted to show the inside of the cake because it was simple, but delicious and pretty. It was a Chiffon Cake with Chocolate Frosting filling, iced with Whipped Cream.
A few extra horizontal strokes on the branches made the trees look more bark-like.
Pearl dragees in the center of the flowers. An afterthought.
And, finally, a view of the inside:
Whipped cream may not be the easiest kind of icing for cake decorating, especially when you have that big pillow of it like that, but it sure does win the taste contest.
I think this whole cake flavor combo will be on the "house menu" one day.
Yup. Winner.
