I made this special set of fire fighter cookies for my dad. The cookies were for a Building Safety Month community event hosted at Home Depot, Green Acres Shopping Center. The event was part of a community outreach/public awareness campaign presented by International Code Council (or ICC) Foundation called "Building Safety Month", and last week was "Fire Safety & Awareness Week". My dad, Jim Gilhooly, is the president of BIANCO (Building Inspector Association of Nassau County), which is an ICC Chapter and NYSBOC affiliate. For this ICC Foundation sponsored event, BIANCO partnered with Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department -- Junior Fire Fighters and Engine Company 341 -- to distribute building safety literature and 9V smoke detector batteries. The fire fighter themed cookies were just a fun little bonus for the Junior Fire Fighters and first comers to the event. My dad said the event was a great success, thanks to all the volunteers! The Mayor of Valley Stream, Ed Fare, came to show his support for this community event.
My dad handed out the ICC's kid-friendly materials (stickers and coloring books, etc.) of CODiE and CODEtte :) to the children who stopped by. Who says Building Safety can't be fun and tasty, too?!
